Junior Club and Squad 2024

Table Tennis Tauranga welcomes beginning  players and experienced Junior table tennis players. Working with Table Tennis BOP, Sports BOP, Parafed and  Special Olympics NZ our club promotes social and competitive play in a friendly environment.  On Thursdays during school terms February to December we host the Junior club and  provide Squad training with International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) level two coach. Intermediate and Secondary School players encouraged to play at either 3.30- 5pm Junior Club or 6.30-7.30 School Leagues for Intermediate / Secondary School age players. Squad membership is determined by the TTT Coaches. Squad Trials are held each term to help inform Squad selections.

Youth Programs weekly during school term 1-4.

Junior Club: Thurs 3.20- 5pm Primary+ Sec. Sch players welcome, social play and some coaching for beginners and beyond. Cost per session $6.

TTT Squad Training: Squad members are selected by the coaches. Squad trials are held at the end of Term 1,2,3. cost per session is $10.

Thursdays 5-6.30. Squad members can stay to play the School leagues which follow at 6.30 at no extra charge.

Schools League 6.30-7.30pm singles /doubles cost $5. No prior registration required. Intermediate and Secondary age players welcome. Squad members free entry.

How to enter Regional and National Table Tennis Competitions

All Competitions run by table tennis regional associations or TTNZ eg BOP Open, National Championships, are listed on the TTNZ website www.tabletennis.org.nz. On this websites home page you will see upcoming events. Click the event you wish to enter it will either give you a link to the Entry form which you can email or it will link you to an online entry form.

  1. Online entry form can be found at ttnz.tournamentsoftware.com  

    create an password protected ID and you can easily enter the competition . This software  shows all entries to that date and keeps records of past competitions.

Table Tennis New Zealand Under 12

If a player wishes to become eligible for regional selection and get the opportunity to participate in the regional programme and attend regional training camps and contests they must meet the criteria listed:

  • Should attend at least one regional training camp per year

  • Must play singles in a minimum of two different open tournaments

  • Can use U12 inter-association tournaments or U12 school championships as one one tournament e.g. AIMS Games, Koru Games, Northern Junior Districts Round Robin, Otago/Southland Rep Match

The following requirements must be met for a player to become eligible for national selection:

  • Must attend national training camps (held at the end of January each year)

  • Must meet all regional requirements

Note: regional and national squad selections are based on the 12 months prior to playing year e.g. to be eligible for 2019, a player must meet all of the requirements for their current squad in the year proceeding 2018.

Table Tennis New Zealand Under 18

  • Should attend at least one regional training camp per year

  • Must play singles in a minimum number of open tournaments in different associations (five for northern region, four for central and southern regions) e.g. Otago Open, Auckland Open, Wellington Open (please refer to key on TTNZ calendar for eligible tournaments)

  • Only one tournament from a players own association can count towards criteria

The following requirements must be met for a player to become eligible for national selection:

  • Must attend national training camps (held at the end of January each year)

  • Must meet all regional requirements

  • Must play either North or South Island Individual Championships

  • Must play the NZ Junior Open

Note: regional and national squad selections are based on the 12 months prior to playing year e.g. to be eligible for 2020, a player must meet all of the requirements for their current squad in the year proceeding 2019.

Junior Club Squad Thursdays,

This program is for players who have the ability to train for local, regional, and national competitions. Our coaches are working within a framework supported by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Table Tennis New Zealand (TTNZ).

The Goal is to prepare players for Competitive events in the BOP region and beyond. Squad Selection is made by the Squad coaches.

Table Tennis New Zealand Regions

Regions
Northern: Taupo North including Taupo but excluding Poverty Bay, Hawkes Bay and Taranaki
Central: Wellington to Taupo, exlcluding Taupo but not Poverty Bay, Hawkes Bay and Taranaki
Southern: The South Island

Annually each Association can nominate one player per gender and age group for an automatic spot in the regional squads. These players must meet all regional requirements such as tournament participation. The remaining spots in regional squads will be selected by the regional selectors based on regional selection criteria.

Annually each of the three regions can nominate up to two players for each gender and age group for automatic spots in the National Squads (confirmed by TTNZ selectors). These players must meet all regional and national requirements such as tournament participation.

The remaining spots in national squads will be selected by national selectors based on eligibility and meeting tournament criteria.
